Ways, cascades and the licensing behind it
Developed by Big Time Gaming and licensed to other studios, Megaways replaces fixed paylines with 'ways': matching symbols on adjacent reels from the left, regardless of position. Each reel shows between two and seven symbols per spin, so the number of ways changes constantly.
Winning symbols disappear and new ones drop in, allowing chain reactions from one spin. In free spins, an unlimited multiplier often grows with each cascade; that's where the big wins come from.
Most Megaways slots are high volatility: long quiet spells and large free-spin wins. Budget accordingly.
Bonanza (the original), Extra Chilli, White Rabbit (with expanding reels up to 248,832 ways), Gonzo's Quest Megaways, Buffalo Rising Megaways and Great Rhino Megaways. Many are 96% RTP or higher in their standard versions.
Check the RTP version in the paytable; some casinos run reduced-RTP Megaways variants.
